假如你是一条蚯蚓。没有眼睛，也没有耳朵，你的世界是一片黑暗、潮湿、充满泥土的地方，泥土紧紧包裹着你的身体。你不需要关注，也不在意地表上发生的事情。相反，你的生活充满了目标——一种和地球一样古老的本能驱使着你。你的任务是什么？将别人丢弃的东西转化为生命的基础。
你的一天从在泥土中钻洞开始。你每前进一寸，就为空气和水分打开了通向植物根系的小通道。你啃食腐烂的树叶、树皮和有机物质，变换为肥料。
某一天，你感知到地表的震动，原来是有人在耕地。你无声无息地为他的土地松土，而他可能全然不知。在他看来，你只是一条简单的虫子，但没有你的存在，他的庄稼将难以茁壮成长，土壤会变得坚硬，田地的生态平衡将被打破，你默默维护着地球的生命循环。
你的世界既简单又深刻。每一个动作都有它的意义，每一天都在为更大的生命循环做出贡献，地上的人类渐渐明白，即便是最微小的生物，也在创造着不容忽视的奇迹。
Pretend you are an earthworm. Without eyes or ears, your world is made of darkness and moisture, filled with soil. Soil wraps around your body tightly. You do not need attention, nor do you attend to the world above ground. Yet your life is filled with goals—an instinct as ancient as the Earth propels you forward. What is your duty? To transform what others have discarded into the foundation of life.
Your day begins with burrowing through the soil. With every inch you advance, you open a thin pathway for air and water to reach the roots of plants. You chew on rotten leaves, bark, and other organic matter, turning them into fertilizer.
One day, you sense a tremble from the earth’s surface. Someone is plowing. You loosen the soil for him in silence, perhaps without him realizing it at all. To him, you are merely a worm, but without you, his crops would struggle to thrive; the soil would harden, and the balance of the field’s ecosystem would be disrupted. Without a word, you sustain the life cycle of planet Earth.
Your world is simple yet profound. Your every action has its purpose; your everyday life contributes to the expansion of the cycle of life. Slowly, mankind living above ground have realized: even the smallest creatures are creating miracles whose significance cannot be ignored.
